Art and flowers in Somerset West

July 8, 2011

On Wednesday this week we were busy with the selecton of paintings for an exhibition which the Western Cape Watercolour Group is having in Somerset West at the end of this month.

We are delighted to have been invited by the Helderberg Flower Club to display some of our artwork at their Flower Show which is being held at the Dutch Reformed Church from 28th – 30th July.

Members of our group were invited to bring up to three of their paintings, in any medium, for selection for the show.  Although our title suggests that we are watercolourists, we work in a range of media, including oils, acrylics, pastels and mixed media and we chose not to restrict people, but to allow a full range of artwork to be submitted, to make the exhibition as varied and as interesting as possible.

To complement the floral displays, we asked our members to bring paintings with a flower-related theme.  We were not disappointed by the standard and variety of the work which our members submitted, and we have nearly 50 paintings to exhibit at the show.  And, of course, we do hope to make a few sales.

Here’s one of mine!
