Kirstenbosch: South African Society of Artists Annual Exhibition

September 23, 2011

The South African Society of Artists will be hosting its prestigious 105th Annual Exhibition at Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town. The exhibition opening is this Monday evening and the exhibition will run from 27 September 2011 to 09 October 2011 daily from 09h30 – 18h00.

All the artwork on show has been selected by a panel of independent judges so that the quality of work displayed is of the highest standard in the country.

The stunning landscape of Kirstenbosch is also a perfect setting for art. The gardens present a variety of art exhibitions, both outdoor exhibitions of long and short-term duration, as well as indoor art shows and exhibitions in the various venues at Kirstenbosch.

As the Chair of the Western Cape Watercolour Group I am delighted that so many of our members, including myself, have had their work selected and prizes awarded for their art.  It’s a huge boost for us all and a great opportunity to showcase our work to a wider audience.

So, congratulations to our members who have had their work selected for the South African Socity of Artists Annual Exhibition at Kirstenbosch.

This is our roll call of prize winners:

  • Marion Langton – Best watercolour
  • Cherry Nichols – Two ‘Highly Commended’ and “Commended”
  • Diane White – Two ‘Commended’
  • Mary Serrurier – ‘Commended’
  • Penny Steynor – Best pastel, ‘Highly Commended’ and ‘Commended’.

Maggie Cole, June Hofmeyr and Kay Kreft also had work selected for the exhibition.

And particular congratulations go to Penny Steynor who gained enough points to be made a Fellow at the opening of the Annual Exhibition.
