Food markets and other goodies in and around Somerset West

March 2, 2012

Our self-catering option is very popular here at Penny Lane Lodge and although we have some very good restaurants nearby, many people like to sample the excellent produce which is available for picnics or to cook or braai using our facilities here.  Guests often ask me where they can buy fresh meat, fruit and vegetables.

In addition to the many farmstalls which are located in the way to Stellenbosch on the R44 road, there are some interesting local markets which are well worth a visit and which sell crafts and gifts too.

Helderberg Veld Winkel-Market

Held on the first Saturday of every month between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm, this market offers fresh produce, home-made preserves and cookies, together with artwork, jewellery and plants on sale.
