Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland Festival

May 25, 2012

The seaside hamlet of Gordon’s Bay, set against the back drop of the Hottentots Holland Mountains on the shores of False Bay, just 10 minutes drive from us at Penny Lane Lodge, will once again be transformed into a wonderful fairyland of lights during the Winter Wonderland Festival from 29 June to 1 July 2012.

A highlight of the event is the Milkwood Trail which will become a Fairy Forest of twinkling white lights – a delight to all – especially to children and romantic couples (of all ages!)  Trees and historic buildings and in the village, and houses all up the mountain will all light up with sparkling lights, creating a wonderful spectacle to be seen from afar.

Enjoy the Carnival atmosphere!
Stroll along the beachfront and little streets behind, browse quaint shops, stop and enjoy a glass of gluhwein or hot chocolate or delicious food from one of the many stalls, while buskers play to entertain you.  Restaurants and pubs, each with live bands and musicians, will offer special warming winter fare.

And if you want to dance and party, stop at the Music Fest Marquee in the centre of the village, at ‘Melt-stock’, which will be pumping as usual or at the Harbour Island Waterfront with its beautiful romantic Harbour bridge – all decorated in sparkling white lights.

Catch a ‘Fairy Ferry’ across to the Old Harbour for more entertainment; browse the Craft Market at the ‘fantasy-painted’ Indigo Backpackers lodge or the intriguing village museum collection at the historic NG Church where local organ musicians and choirs will entertain. Meander along the Art Route, enjoy a fashion show, and for the very brave, a visit to the Enchanted Ghost House is a must!

And it’s a great opportunity to support the community:
At the historic Post Office tree buy Winter Wonderland memorabilia and offer donations of blankets and food.  NGO’s ‘5th Principle’ will support orphans and the Lions events will support their charities in need.

In celebration of Gordon’s Bay’s ‘secret season’ – the temperate winter months when the village is protected from the cold Cape north-wester wind  – and for those who can’t make 29 June to 1 July,  the magical Winter Wonderland lights  will be shining for a full month – 22 June to 22 July  – an enchanting delight to visitors from near and far.
