July 13, 2012

Just down the road from us at Penny Lane Lodge, the Leapfrog Gordon’s Bay 21km Road Race will be held again on on Saturday 21 July 2012. The race is classified as a Western Province Championships Race by the WPA and attracts thousands of runners including some top athletes.

This “scenic, fast and flat” route has been changed slightly from last year to accommodate many more entries. Runners will follow the route from the Main Beach in Gordon’s Bay, through the Old Gordon’s Bay Village – a historical fishing hamlet – to Strand and back. Along the route they will pass some of the most beautiful scenery in the country and enjoy the friendly hospitality that Gordon’s Bay offers. Race organisers, Strand Athletic Club, have consistently won best organised race of the month and are confident that this race can win the best new race of the year and best race of July.

The race starts at 07h30 at Main Beach, Gordon’s Bay and finishes in the same place. A social 5km Fun Run/Walk starts at 08h05 for those just wanting to join in the fun. Medals for all finishers of the 21km race a well as for the fun run and lucky draw prizes with a total value of more than R10 000 will be presented at the prize-giving at 11h00.

Members of the Gordon’s Bay Business Forum, Lester Burrow and Leapfrog principal, Kevin Wearing, initiated this event to give runners the opportunity to experience the beauty, hospitality and fun Gordon’s Bay has to offer. Visitors will enjoy the many excellent beachside restaurants and adventures Gordon’s Bay has to offer including the Winter Wonderland Festive lights display.
