Once again the Bright Street Charity Carnival will swing into action when Somerset West’s arty Bright Street will exchange its normal traffic for a myriad of entertainment for the whole family. Shop, eat and enjoy the lively atmosphere on Saturday 8 December while simultaneously supporting the Imibala Sponsor-a-Childprogramme.

Proceeds from this community festival, which takes place for the fourth time this year, go towards the fund which provides less fortunate children in the Helderberg Basin with all-round support.

A grand parade of a variety of street performers, followed by a host of local primary schools taking part in the decorate-a-trolley competition, will officially declare the Carnival open. Live entertainment will be on stage with the ABBA’s HERE Tribute Show Band and the much enjoyed The Professors Duo, with Jo Popp on lead vocals and Gavin Gold on lead guitar. In addition, fire performers, drummers, dancers, a whole range of children’s entertainers and even a rodeo bull will set the tone of this fun evening in the street.

Food, wine, cocktails and coffee will cater for every taste, and a variety of market stalls will provide a treasure trove for Christmas shoppers. The carnival will also have its very own wine route with wine stalls from some of the local wine farms offering tastings and sales.

Visitors are invited to come dressed to impress for the “bring it on with colour” head gear competition. Carnival gear will also be available by the entrance points. The festivities commence at 16:00 till 22:30 and all for only R50 per person. All accompanied under 16s gain free entry. Tickets are available beforehand at Imibala or Chelsea Village in Bright Street, or on the day from the entrance area.

It always a great event and for such a good cause. If you’re around Somerset West it’s certainly work a visit!
