The Stellenbosch Wine Festival 2013

stellenbosch wine fest logoThe 2013 Stellenbosch Wine Festival in the heart of Stellenbosch promises to have wine lovers and lifestyle tourists from all over South Africa, and the world, thrilled with what Stellenbosch will have on offer this summer. This year’s ten day festival, offers perfect summer weather, the buzz of a new university year, the blessing of the Harvest Parade, sporting events, art exhibitions and musical concerts.

During the week wine lovers will be able to visit participating estates and restaurants and enjoy special food and wine pairing menus, together with interesting tours combined with the wine tasting organised by some of the wine farms.

The festival will include the ‘PnP Lifestyle’ event on the 30 January at Die Braak where visitors will enjoy the best food, wine and music. The event will promote local restaurants, local culinary artisans and wines, and showcase the Stellenbosch lifestyle.

The Grand Finale will be the three day Wine Expo, from 1 – 3 February, in Die Braak, the grassy town square in heart of the town where interactive stands will feature wines and gourmet food products and sun-downer concerts will be held on a central stage.

26 January -The Stellenbosch Harvest Parade through the streets of Stellenbosch

26 January – Pick n Pay Women’s Walk, Field C, adjacent to Danie Craven Stadium.

30 January – The Stellenbosch Wine Festival Lifestyle Experience, Die Braak.

31 January – Grape Golf Challenge, De Zalze

1-3 February  – Wine Expo, Die Braak.

3 February – The Pick n Pay Small Produces Market, Die Braak.

Winery Experiences

25 January – Journey’s End – Horseback rides through the vines
Enjoy a unique journey with a scenic horseback ride through one of the valley’s most picturesque wineries. A full tasting awaits you at the end.

25 January – Le Bonheur – Film Evening with Wine & Dinner
‘Paljas’, a 1998 Afrikaans drama written by local novelist Chris Barnard and directed by his wife, Katinka Heyns. The experience includes the movie, dinner and wine.

25 January – Stellenzicht – Sunset Concert with Emma du Preez
Bring your own picnic, meat [braai facilities available], chairs/blankets and enjoy live music by artist Emma du Preez, while the sun sets over Table Mountain. Stellenzicht wines will be sold.

26 January – Kleine Zalze – Kleine Zalze Cultivar Competition
Win wine with your wine knowledge. Identify cultivars by doing a blind wine tasting, as well as identifying them through their leaves, bunches and berries. BIG prizes to be won. A percentage of the entry fee will go towards helping disadvantages children.

26 January – Muratie Wine FarmIn Concert: Andre Lou & The Ride
Summer concert at Muratie Wine Farm, enjoyed with wine and cheese platters.

27 January – Delheim – Harvest Festival Grape Stomping
Delheim will roll out the barrels for vintage 2013 at the fourth Start of Harvest Festival, hosted by the Sperling family. Featuring the famous grape stomp, where teams will clash in pursuit of producing the most juice. Prizes will be awarded for the most juice stomped, with spot prizes allocated according to quirky themes.

28 January – Avontuur Estate – Wine & Stud Farm Walk
A unique opportunity to encounter true class and breeding at Avontuur. A tour of this famous stud farm will allow you to meet and greet some world-class racehorses, while the post-walk tasting will offer award- winning vintages.
