Strawberry Picking in the Winelands

December 12, 2014

strawberries

Sit back and consider the sweet scent and ripe taste of fresh, plump strawberries – maybe will thick velvety cream, with luscious vanilla ice cream, or maybe with a little balsamic vinegar and ground black pepper. Think of the freshest of fresh strawberries…and you know…you can find them right on our doorstep here at Penny Lane Lodge!

From October to the end of December each year, when the strawberries are at their fullest and ripest, two of our local strawberry farms open to the public, inviting locals and visitors alike to come and ‘pick your own’.

Farms generally advise you to phone first to check that fruits are still available. Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen. Strawberry picking is simple: you’re simply encouraged to select the ripest, reddest berries in the field, pick them gently and package them safely. Then all you have to do is bring them home – or find a picnic spot – relax and enjoy that sweet, summery taste.
